A STORY ABOUT PETRO KULWA AMOS

PETRO KULWA AMOS is a boy aged 10. He is living with his grandparents in Karutanga village in Muleba district. He was neglected by his parents with his other 4 siblings. He was born with deafness and was unable to attend any school for education purpose because of the family poor condition associated with old age of grandparent who are caretakers.

During the home visit by MDREO’s community volunteers in December 2024 to other families of children with disabilities, PETRO was identified not to be attending any school and was linked for further support. Upon admitting him, MDREO staff linked him with KAIGARA INCLUSSIVE SCHOOL and provided school materials, transport fare, medical care and other school contributions. He was admitted to standard one. Surprisingly he is now in standard two and has gained the knowledge in sign language, literacy and numerous skills. Being included to other children, he is fast learning and assuring a great hope to the school, family and general community that children with disabilities can also perform better academically even than those who have no disabilities.
