Silvand Paulo is a boy who was born without any disability. He was born in Bukono village in Muleba District . Currently He is five years old. His parents are poor peasants who produce food crops. When Silvand was four years old he started suffering from unknown disease. Suddenly the right leg started swelling and it was so painful. Silvand could not walk again. He was taken to Kagondo hospital for treatment but it was not possible for him to be treated without amputating his right leg. After amputation Silvand was not able to walk again. He started crawling from one place to another .Crawling was very difficult for him especially when he wanted to visit his friends . His mother brought him to our MDREO office for requesting mobility device. MDREO staff assessed him well and referred him to the hospital for taking some measurements for getting a walker. MDREO paid all the costs for the walker, Transport costs and registration costs. Silvand started using that walker when moving from one place to another. He started moving from home to visit other children with that walker.
Next year Silvand will be using that walker when going to a near school. In future we will plan for an artificial leg for him. Parents and relatives encourages him to accept his situation. MDREO staff encourages him to accept his situation too.
